March 1, 2021
Dear Friends,
With of the short month of February, March has come quickly. Not much to tell about this month. We have not had any of the snow that descended on Portland recently, just intermittent rain. Valentine’s Day was filled with nice surprises, especially a box of “love” and goodies that arrived early from my son Dan and his wife Cathy all the way from Florida.
I have continued to work on perfecting all the goals I mentioned in my last letter, plus I have now had two actual showers instead of just sponge baths in bed. True was worried about me maybe slipping, but with the little shower seat inside, there is no need to stand. She is so good about washing my hair and curling it up, too. Believe me, she is really an angel! I certainly couldn’t get along here without her.
Another thing that has helped me considerably to get in and out of a car is a gadget called a car-cane, which is not a cane at all, but a small device that fits into the opening of the door and is strong enough to support 300 pounds. So, when it quits raining maybe Linda or True will take me for a nice ride somewhere.
I have enjoyed and learned a lot from the physical therapists that have come here to help me and work with me, but their time has expired, so they won’t be coming any more. A nurse has been coming once a week to basically check on me and my health. But, her time is now ending too, which means I’ll be completely on my own now.
True bought me a skein of yarn and a crochet needle, and asked if I would like to take up crocheting again? She even brought out a crib blanket that I had crocheted long ago for her son to help refresh my memory about how that particular stitch goes, but, by golly, I can’t remember how to turn the corner properly, so I have been doing some practicing. That is, until I hurt my hand (again) by doing something that sprained my thumb. This caused it to swell, become sore and then unusable because almost the whole hand was taped up by True immediately thereafter. In fact, I am typing this letter using a "hunt and peck" method with my left hand.
So, I do believe this is a good time to stop and say goodbye and send along my love and best wishes to all until next month arrives.
