MERRY CHRISTMAS --- My Dear Friends

Like most years, 2019 was a mixture of good and bad. Grants Pass has had very pleasant weather, while other places have been struggling with hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and fires. Yes, we are definitely blessed here.

Even though I just turned 92, am stooped and use a cane to steady myself, I feel that I'm not really old inside this aging framework. I attend an exercise class for an hour three times a week, ride my three-wheeled bike, and drive my little car any place I want to go.

Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to fly with my daughter, Linda, to my sister Carol's home in Utah and spend almost a full week with her and my other daughter, True, who flew up from San Diego. It was a glorious time. But it was dampened, somewhat, by what happened to Linda just as we were about to leave for the Medford airport. Somehow, she stretched in a certain way and pulled ligaments in her right leg that gave her excruciating pain. But she continued on. We all felt sorry for her, but bravely she tolerated the awful pain and was able to participate with the rest of us in our activities. She, too, uses a cane, but was a real trooper in putting up with the terrible pain without complaint.

Later, I had a couple of good fortunes come my way. In addition to winning 3rd prize at the Riviera's Halloween party back in November, I was at Bi-Mart on a "lucky number" Tuesday, so I decided to check the board, even though I never win. But this time, lo and behold, there was my membership number, indicating that I had won a pressure cooker! Wow! Then I noticed that I was also entitled to a free bag of chips because my number ended in a 4. So, Lady Luck was really with me that day.

About the same time, however, my good fortune turned to bad one night when I was washing dishes and began to wonder why I wasn't getting hot water, so I went to check the water heate. Only then did I realize what was happening. The great flood of 2019! I I don't know how long it had been going on, but I was able to reach the faucet knob and turn it off, so no more came in. My nice neighbors helped get rid of the water and offered to put in a new hose for me. I am so thankful the Elders Quorum President and Missionaries came late that night to rescue me! Then, things were returned to their normal places and routines. I worry that my leg is not healing well at all, however.

Yes, 2019 was eventful, and I'm sure 2020 will be interesting for me, and for you! So, have a good one!

Marie
